How can i overlap one image onto another in Adobe Photoshop?

o.k. so i have been trying to overlap one image onto another with photoshop but my attempts have been futile. I can't seem to put the image over the other one without the first image getting smaller. I have tried using the lasso but i can't seem to get it right. I think i have the 7.0 version, if it's any help. Thanks! How can i overlap one image onto another in Adobe Photoshop?
Your first task should be to check to see that the two images are of the same pixel per inch, ppi. Do that by Image %26gt; Resize Image. There you will see a box titled Resolution. If not the same, decide which ppi you wish to use, uncheck Resample, change the ppi number and click OK. If you are wanting to print, 300 is a good number. For display on the computer monitor, 72 is fine.

Now if size is still a problem, once you have copy - pasted one image onto the other, with that layer active select the Transformation tool, Ctrl+T. You will see a bounding box. Grab a corner handle and push/pull to resize.

If you want to blend in one with the other, with the upper layer active, click on the Mask icon at the bottom of the layer palette. Select black as your foreground color and with a soft Brush, paint the edges to reveal the image below. If you mess up, paint with white to remove the mess up.How can i overlap one image onto another in Adobe Photoshop?
Create a new layer and open the second picture in that layer. Then if the second image is too big and isn't the same size as the first layer, click on the second layer in the little box where all your layers are, go to Select, then All and go to edit and free transformation and you'll be able to scale the image down to match the first one.
Use two separate layers and then try using a mask on one of the layers.
